How PFA accounting works
A PFA keeps single-entry books. What you have to do depends on how you are taxed: under the income norm or under the real income system. In short, so you know what your accountant does:
PFA under the income norm
Tax is calculated on a fixed amount set for your activity and for the county where you work, not on what you actually earn. The records are minimal: your receipts. You still have to calculate CAS and CASS and file the Single Tax Return.
PFA under the real income system
Tax is calculated on income minus deductible costs. You keep the cash receipts and payments journal and the inventory register. Your accountant checks which costs you can deduct and which documents you need for them.
The Single Tax Return
With your income, tax and the CAS and CASS contributions. It is filed by 25 May, for the previous year. At eConta it is included for PFA income, and your accountant files it.
Registers and deadlines
- Cash receipts and payments journal. Every payment received and every payment made, in the order they happen. Every PFA under the real income system keeps it.
- Inventory register. Only under the real income system: the assets and equipment used in the activity, for example the laptop, the car, the devices.
- Tax records register. The net income you pay tax on comes from it. Under the income norm, only the income part is filled in.
The Single Tax Return and the payment of tax, CAS and CASS: by 25 May, for the previous year. The VAT return and the return for employees, if they apply: on the 25th of the month.
CAS, CASS and the tax regime
CAS is the pension contribution: you owe it if your net income goes over a ceiling calculated in minimum wages. CASS is the health contribution, calculated on net income, between a minimum and a maximum base. Your accountant calculates them in advance, so you know the amount before the deadline.
The income norm is simpler, but it is not available for every activity or above a certain income. A PFA under the real income system keeps more records, but deducts its costs: it is worth it when you have high costs, for example equipment, rent or a car. At eConta you pay the same under both.

Why an accountant and not an app
PFA apps give you forms. A dedicated accountant tells you what to do when something doesn’t fit. At eConta you get both.
- Your accountant, with a name. The same person, who knows your trade. Who is it?
- ANAF, up to date. You always know what you have to pay and into which account. See how
- Documents on WhatsApp. You send the receipt, your accountant gets it on the spot.
- Recurring invoices. Do you work on a monthly retainer, in IT, consulting, services or a medical practice? The invoice goes out by itself every month, through e-Factura. Invoicing
- The Company Mirror. On the 5th of the month, a letter with what you have to pay and what was done. See an example
How much should I set aside each month for the Single Tax Return?
About 1,200 RON a month, from October to May. That way the whole amount is saved by 25 May.
- Estimated net income for 2026, from the invoices so far
- 72,000 RON
- Estimated tax, CAS and CASS
- 24,600 RON
- Set aside so far
- − 15,000 RON
- Still to save by 25 May
- 9,600 RON
- To set aside each month, 8 months
- ~ 1,200 RON
If your income grows, the amount is recalculated. Your accountant checks the figures before the Single Tax Return.
Radu, your AI CFO
Radu works on the data of your PFA: invoices, payments received, costs. You ask for a report or a budget and you get the answer with your own figures, not a form to fill in.
10 questions a month to Radu are included. The figures in the example are made up.
Questions about PFA accounting
How much does PFA accounting cost in 2026?
At eConta, 39 € a month excluding VAT, with 30 documents and the Single Tax Return included for PFA income. The price is the same under the income norm and the real income system. You make the exact calculation on the PFA pricing page.
How is the price calculated? What do I pay above the 39 €?
You pay for your own activity (pay-per-use): the base package and, above it, only what your PFA uses.
The base package: 39 € a month, excluding VAT, with 30 documents a month included. It includes the dedicated CECCAR accountant, the PFA registers, the returns, the Single Tax Return for your PFA income, eFactura and the eConta platform.
The cost goes up only if you have:
- documents above the 30 included: 1.25 € per eFactura invoice, 1.75 € per other document (fiscal receipt, receipt, paper invoice or invoice from abroad, 10 statement rows), 1.99 € per complex document (leasing, fixed assets, import). Above 300 documents a month we make a custom offer;
- VAT: +15 € a month if you file quarterly, +25 € if you file monthly;
- employees: 6 € a month for each;
- stock of goods: 50 € a month, no cost while you have up to 30 documents;
- each extra fiscal cash register or work location: 20 € a month.
If you also have income outside your PFA (rent, dividends, investments, income from abroad), the Single Tax Return for it costs 50 €, once a year. You find the exact price in the PFA price calculator.
Can I do my PFA accounting myself?
Yes, the law allows it. The risk is in calculating CAS and CASS, in deductible costs and in deadlines. A dedicated PFA accountant follows them for you and tells you in time how much you have to pay.
Is the price different for a PFA under the real income system than under the income norm?
No. You pay the same subscription, and if you move from the income norm to the real income system we don’t change your price. The price grows only if your activity grows.
I am a VAT-registered PFA. What changes?
The price goes up a little, because the VAT return means extra work every month or quarter. You find examples of VAT-registered PFAs and the exact price for you on the PFA pricing page.
I have a PFA with a fiscal cash register.
We also help with the cash register records. You see what is added to the subscription in the calculation on the PFA pricing page, before you sign.
I don’t have a PFA yet. Where do I start?
The legal part, the registration application and the filing with the Trade Register, is done by a lawyer. eConta gives you the registered office, the accounting and the organisation of your documents. PFA setup costs 599 RON, VAT included, with no state fees. For a new PFA, the first month of accounting and a consultation session with your accountant are free.
What services are included in the subscription?
Online invoicing and e-Factura, PFA records kept up to date, tax returns filed on time, the Single Tax Return for PFA income, accounting and tax advice, and the electronic archive of your documents.
Will I have a dedicated accountant?
Yes. You get a CECCAR-certified accountant with experience in your field of activity. You meet them on the first call, and if your working styles don’t match, we’ll change your accountant.
What happens if something goes wrong and I get a fine?
If we make a mistake, we pay the fine. For fines caused by a mistake of your eConta accountant, in the months we worked for you.
What statements and reports will I get?
The records of payments received and made, up to date, the returns filed, with their receipts, and the Company Mirror on the 5th of the month: what you have to pay and what was done.
Can you help me move from my previous accountant?
Yes. We help you transfer all the documents from your current accountant and tell you exactly what to ask for. The steps are on the Change your accountant page.
Where are the documents stored and how do I access them?
The documents are archived electronically in the cloud. The eConta app opens in your browser, on any laptop or PC, and you can also send receipts and invoices on WhatsApp.
